We’re on location today at the Imagine the Possibilities career expo at the BancorpSouth Arena.
About 7,000 eighth-grade students from 17 Northeast Mississippi counties will visit the expo this week. Volunteers from 130 companies are participating in the event to give the students hands-on demonstrations of a wide array of possible careers.
Derek and Brad talk to several of those involved about the expo’s impact and the greater effort to prepare Mississippi’s students for future careers.
Booneville Middle School principal Brad Mixon (5:48) talks about what schools are doing to build on the lessons students gain at the career expo. CREATE Foundation consultant Charles Garrett (9:46) discusses the big-picture efforts to align education and career readiness.
Toyota Mississippi’s John Raymer (14:44) tells how the event is beneficial to the region’s businesses and why it is something that the automaker has chosen to support. Paige Roberts (19:17), who helped found Mississippi’s first career expo on the Gulf Coast, gives an update on the efforts to take the event statewide. CREATE President Mike Clayborne (28:06) talks about the work to prepare for the second-annual event and what is new this year.
Remember, there is no show on Thursday this week because of the career expo.
